Radar
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
Imagine you are flying on a dark, stormy night with heavy rain, non-stop turbulence, and near zero visibility. It’s not a comfortable flight, but you’re confident the pilots will navigate safely to your destination. But how will they do it? What enables them to see through the darkness? Radar.
Radar lets the pilots see a mapping of their environment showing them what’s hidden by the storm and darkness. It shows them what’s going on around them and what lies ahead, making it possible to navigate safely. The radar doesn’t fly the plane or make their decisions for them; it simply provides them with the accurate information they need to make wise decisions.
The Bible, like radar, provides us with the information we need to successfully navigate our journey through life. It reveals God’s character and his righteousness and exposes our sin and our need for salvation. Beyond leading us to God, the Bible also gives us the information we need to live victoriously as his followers.
It is powerful. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:12-13)
And it is effective. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
