Fearfully and
Wonderfully Made

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14
Imagine you’re walking along a beach and you see ripples in the sand made by the waves. The ripples in the sand are caused by the waves—it’s a naturalistic cause…i.e., the natural result of the waves rolling onto the shore. Next as you continue to walk along the beach you see the words “Happy Birthday Bob!” carved into the sand with a smiley face under the words. Another naturalistic cause? No, this was caused by the intent of an intelligent being who desired to communicate specific information.
With that picture in mind please reread the verses above and take to heart the truth that you are not just the result of naturalistic causes occurring over millions of years, but that you are the result of God’s intelligent design and purpose. Isn’t it incredible to think that the creator of the universe—awesome in power—handmade you as a special creation? The intellect behind all of creation cares specifically about you and formed you from the moment of conception. “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:15-16)
God created you with a purpose. He wants you to know him and he never stops thinking about you. “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. (Psalm 139:17-18a) Isn’t it wonderful to know that God cares immensely about your life?
You do not exist by chance; you are a special creation of Almighty God. Live in the power of that truth today!
