What Is Jesus Doing Now?
“Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Romans 8:34
Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came to earth: He was born, and clothing Himself with humanity he became one of us. He lived a perfect life and then he laid down that life to atone for our sins, the just for the unjust; He rose from the dead in victory; he ascended back to heaven; and he left us with the promise that he’s coming back to take us to be with him forever. But what is he doing now, in heaven? The Bible tells us two specific roles Jesus is engaged in personally on behalf of every believer.
Jesus is our intercessor. The verse above says, “Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” This means that he understands your struggles and as your great high priest he’s actively pleading on your behalf before the throne of God. And “because Jesus lives forever,” it says in Hebrews 7:24-25 “he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” It’s wonderful to have a powerful, always active intercessor.
John tells us that Jesus is also our advocate. He says in 1 John 2:1, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” This means that Jesus argues for you, or in support of you. He advocates that your sins have been paid for by his shed blood and no matter what you’ve done, or how badly you fail, you’re one of his and he will always advocate for you. With him as your defender you cannot fail.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that Jesus actively intercedes and advocates for you before God’s throne in heaven?
