Trust Jesus
“He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” John 9:11
One day my sister-in-law was driving through town and saw the words, “Trust Jesus” spray painted on a bridge abutment. The words grabbed her and right there, in that moment, she placed her faith in Jesus and invited Him into her heart as savior and Lord.
This was not the first time she’d heard of Jesus. Friends had told her about God’s love. She’d been to church. But it wasn’t until that moment that it all hit home, and she knew Jesus was Lord.
She went from knowing something about Jesus to coming to know Him as savior and Lord. That’s also what happened to the blind man whose story is told in John 9. The verse above summarizes his first encounter with Jesus. The religious leaders, who hated Jesus, wanted to discredit the man’s healing and asked him: “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.”
The man replied, “He is a prophet.” (verse 17) He knew Jesus was a godly person, but he didn’t yet know Jesus was God. The religious leaders continue to denounce Jesus, but the man resists, saying: “Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” (verses 32-33)
The man is thrown out of the temple and once again encounters Jesus, who asks him: “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
“Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”
Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”
Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.” (verses 35-38)
This was his “Trust Jesus” moment as his eyes were opened spiritually and he experienced the full joy of salvation.
