Transformational
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
A pastor held his Bible up and proclaimed to his congregation, “Many books are informational, but only one book is transformational.” How true. If you read and study the Bible diligently it will transform you “by the renewing of your mind” as it says in Romans 12:2 (above). The Greek word translated “transformed” in that verse is ‘metamorphoō’ from which we also get our English word ‘metamorphosis’ meaning “to change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one.”
That’s what happens when you study the Bible. It transforms you by renewing your mind because it is the Word of God. As such it is living; it is active; and it is eternal.
The Word of God is living. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12). That’s transformative power.
The Word of God is active. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). That’s transformative power.
The Word of God is eternal. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” (Isaiah 40:8). “Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89). And Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Mark 13:31). God’s word is eternally relevant. That’s transformative power.
