This May Be Your Time
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14b
Have you ever wondered why God gave you certain talents and abilities or allowed you to rise to a position of influence? Did you ever wonder if God had a specific purpose in doing so?
Whether you’ve wondered about this, or not, you might want to consider the verse above and the story of Esther. In brief, the Jewish people had been living in captivity for a long time under the Babylonians and then the Persians. Near the end of the captivity the Persian King Xerxes deposed his queen and launched a kingdom-wide search for a new queen. Esther was selected and quickly rose from obscurity to prominence. The king was unaware of Esther’s Jewish heritage, and around the same time she became queen, he fell for a wicked scheme by his top official to sign a decree setting a date for all the Jews living in the kingdom to be killed.
Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, told her about this ruthless plot and asked Esther to intervene. She hesitated, reminding him that not even she could go to the king without first being summoned. If she did and he didn’t receive her, the penalty was death. Mordecai knew this but given the dire circumstances he advised her to take the risk and approach the king; that, in fact, she may have become queen for that very purpose. So, despite the risk, Esther used her position to seek audience with the king. He listened to her, and Haman’s plot was exposed and thwarted.
What about you? Perhaps God has put you in a specific position to serve a specific purpose for his kingdom. Ask him to give you guidance about how to best use your influence to serve him.
This just may be your time.
How can you best serve God with the position and influence he has given you?
