The Lord’s Arm is not too Short
“The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.” Numbers 11:23
The setting for today’s verse is that the Israelites were traveling through the wilderness toward the Promised Land, and they were dependent on the Lord to provide for them. As part of his provision, God gave them manna to eat, but after a short time the people began to complain, saying they wanted meat to eat. Displeased by their complaints, God said he would give them meat for a whole month, until they were sick of it. The people numbered more than 600,000 men, plus women and children, and even Moses doubted God could provide that much meat. Today’s verse was God’s answer to Moses.
We should never doubt God’s ability to provide for us and we shouldn’t complain about his provision. He is the creator and sustainer of the universe, and every resource is at his disposal. Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.”
In thinking about God’s ability to provide, consider these words from Psalm 50:1,9-12. “The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets…I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.”
God will provide for you. His arm is not too short.
