PRaise the Lord

“Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.” Psalm 113:2-3

In this week in which we celebrate Thanksgiving Day I’m reminded of one of the central themes in scripture: “Praise the Lord!” Praise means to glorify and honor God; to exalt him because he’s God—the author of life and savior of the world. Our gratitude to God is best expressed when it’s based on, and begins with, praise and worship for who he is. He’s the reason that we can be thankful, not for all things, but in all things, in every phase of life and in every circumstance in which we live. The Psalms are filled with praise, and here are a few of those verses to guide your prayers of thanksgiving as you praise the Lord.

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.” (Psalm 145:3)

“Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:1,2,6)

“Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1-5)

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14)

“Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion.  Praise the Lord, O my soul.”  (Psalm 103:22)

Praise the Lord with thanksgiving today!
