My Help Comes From The Lord

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2
American Ninja Warrior contestant, Michelle Warnky, writes a Bible verse reference in large print on her leg before she competes. It’s a practice she says she started during her last year of cross-country racing in college as a way to honor God. In an American Ninja Warrior competition a few years back she chose Psalm 121 as her reference and it inspired me to memorize this great Psalm.
The first two verses are above and here are the remaining six verses: “He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
The Lord watches over you—what a great truth to know. And as you trust him “he will not let your foot slip.” As it says in Psalm 37:23-24, “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”
Another great truth proclaimed in Psalm 121 is that God does not slumber. He never takes his eye off of you and his attention is never diverted from you. He’s awake even when we’re asleep, which is why David could say with confidence, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8). What great comfort it is to know that the maker of heaven and earth watches over your life.
