Live a Life Worthy of the Calling

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1

Following Jesus is serious business. The Apostle Paul was sold out to serving Jesus, and this verse is a call to all Christians to be true to our destiny. When you place your faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, the Bible says that you become a child of God (John 1:12). And 1 John 3:1 says, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

But what is our calling as children of God? 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Our lives should reflect our transformation from children of darkness to children of light.

And even more than that 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” God is, in fact, making his appeal to the people we come in contact with every day through us as his chosen representatives. What an incredible opportunity.

Jesus said we are the salt and the light needed to bring the good news to a dying world. We may well be the only representation of Christ that the people we talk to and interact with ever see.

Think about the people you routinely come in contact with during the course of a day or week. Does your life live up to your calling as a child of God and representative of Christ? Are you serving and encouraging them in Jesus name?

“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
