Deliver the News

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation…” Isaiah 52:7

Not many people get a newspaper delivered to their house these days. But back when I was a kid nearly every home got a daily newspaper delivered to their doorstep. One of the prized jobs for youngsters in those days was to be a paperboy. That was my first job. I started at the age of 11 and delivered a morning paper seven days a week, 365 days a year for seven years. Among the many things I learned as a paperboy was that I did not write the news, I was not in the news, I did not make the news; my job was to deliver the news.

Spiritually that’s the job of every believer—to deliver the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s one of our primary jobs as followers of Christ. The Bible says “that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. (2 Corinthians 5:19-20)

And consider the words of Romans 10:14-15: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

We cannot leave the job of delivering the good news to pastors, chaplains, and preachers. To fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ we need to go into all the world and deliver the good news, starting with our family and friends, and extending to the utter most parts of the world.

Are you daily delivering the news?
