A Great Salvation

“How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?”  Hebrews 2:3a

The gospel of Jesus Christ is insanely great news. All mankind stands separated from God by sin, hopelessly guilty before the creator of the universe. But God in his mercy and out of love for us provides redemption by coming to earth himself in the person of Jesus, the Son of God.

Jesus lived a perfect life as an example to us, and then, as the only one who owed no penalty for his own sin, he willingly gave himself to pay the penalty for all the sins of all mankind for all time. To be saved from our sin and be made right with God we simply need to acknowledge our need for salvation and ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior.

Just think about how great this salvation is. Everyone who professes faith in Christ is immediately saved from the guilt and penalty of sin. We call this justification. But salvation doesn’t stop there. The Spirit of Christ is actively at work in our lives saving us from the habit and dominion of sin as we submit to him and grow in our faith. We call this sanctification.

Salvation guarantees us eternal life with Christ. Jesus said he’s gone to prepare a place for us that where he is we may be also. We have his promise in the scriptures that he’s coming back to get us, and that if we die before he comes back, we will step through death into life. And when he returns our perishable bodies will be replaced with imperishable bodies and we will dwell with the Lord forever. We call this glorification.

It’s incredible! We owed the debt, but He paid the price. We have no excuse if we ignore so great a salvation.
